Our Story
Jennifer York grew up in rural Indiana, inspired by her grandfather, Martin “Bee Man” Hoernig, who spent decades educating others and selling honey. This early exposure to beekeeping stayed with her as she pursued a creative path, earning degrees in sculpture and textiles. She later founded Jennythreads Studio, a business dedicated to designing and crafting artistic apparel for stylish women over 20 years.
In 2015, Jennifer followed in her grandfather’s footsteps, taking up beekeeping and becoming an NC Certified Beekeeper in 2017 and SC Journeyman in 2021. When she relocated to Charleston in 2020, she transported her beehives with her, continuing her passion.
During a 2023 SC beekeepers conference, she listened as women expressed frustration with traditional beekeeping suits designed for men— poorly-fitting, heavy, hot, and uncomfortable. This moment sparked an idea: “I could design a beekeeping suit for women.”
The more she thought about it and looked at suits on the market, Jennifer knew she really could build a better women’s beekeeping suit. Pursuing her big idea, she won a $3900 grant from the SC Beekeepers Association to figure out how to bring her vision to life. Jennifer began with research: a 40-question survey from more than 100 women beekeepers to help guide her design priorities.
She personally drafted, sewed, and wear-tested over a dozen suit prototypes in her own apiary. Through real-world use, she eliminated weak spots, improved fit and comfort, and streamlined design.
Like her grandfather who championed Made in America, Jennifer immediately partnered with the Carolina Textile District to help search for quality materials and domestic manufacturing. She collaborated with Edgington Studio to refine her handmade design and paper patterns into a refined, finished suit, graded from size S up to XXL.
Jennifer has secured a manufacturing partner in North Carolina, USA to sew the first 100 suits for production spring/summer 2025.
The name Jeometry Beewear™ reflects Jennifer’s love of geometry (“the only math I ever loved,”), inspired by the structured beauty of honeycomb patterns, the golden ratio, and orderly repetition found throughout nature.
“I am so proud of this suit. I won’t go back because nothing else even comes close to its fit and performance.”
Created by a woman, for women, Jeometry Beewear™ is redefining comfort and functionality in beekeeping gear—because beekeeping gear should work as hard as you do.
Stay cool, comfortable, and protected with a suit designed by a woman beekeeper for women beekeepers. Lightweight, breathable, and eco-friendly, it moves with you—no bulk, no overheating.
